Allegheny Valley School operates residential and therapeutic programs throughout Pennsylvania for children and adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. Most of our residents also have multiple physical handicaps, medical complications and some have behavior management needs. We operate more than 120 facilities and programs in Western, Central and Eastern Pennsylvania and provide services to more than 900 individuals ranging in age from 10 to 90. Our programs provide individuals with opportunities and choices and help them to function at their fullest potential and as independently as possible.

Carabella, along with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Xhapter will be hosting a Fashion show event entitled “Pretty Woman” feauring fun and fashion by designer Donna Degnan. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
The event will be held at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont. Doors open at 6 pm. With heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. A silent auction will be held until 7 pm and the fashion show begins at 7:30 pm. Local Motion is an annual Fashion Show featuring local designers, models and stylists. This year marks the 4th annual show and will be held at James Centre in the West End. Proceeds from this year’s show and silent auction will benefit the Family Services of Western Pennsylvania’s Education Assistance Initiative. This program was developed to help the older adolescent / young adult who was involved in foster care to go on and succeed in higher education, post high school. Once a foster child turns 18 years of age, he / she can no longer receive the supportive services of foster care or other mental health services. The Educational Assistance Initiative was developed to help bridge that gap.

The Junior League of Pittsburgh presents its first-ever American Girl Fashion Show featuring authentic American Girl fashions for girls and dolls. Approximately 150 local models will be chosen to present historical outfits that represent the popular American Girl characters such as Kaya, Felicity, Samantha, Kitt and Molly. Older girls will also wear “Just Like You” outfits and younger girls will model Bitty Baby fashions. Proceeds will benefit local children’s charities including the Felician Sisters’ Mooncrest Children’s Programs and Kids in the Kitchen. Show times will be Saturday, November 1st at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.and Sunday, November 2nd at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.. Tickets will go on sale online at www.jlpgh.org on July 1st.
Pittsburgh Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. 2008 Presentation Ball is an opportunity to present some of the Pittsburgh's academically talented and community minded young adults to the Pittsburgh community. Fifteen gifted and responsible young ladies and gentlemen will participate in this year’s Presentation Ball. The presentees will participated in several community service events and educational workshops throughout the year. Their year long journey will culminate with the Presentation Ball on Saturday, December 27 at the Omni William Penn Hotel Grand Ballroom.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has a membership base of over 9,500 families and it is the oldest and largest African American family organization in the United States. The Pittsburgh Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. organized in 1944 has been encouraging, celebrating and showcasing our youth through the biennial Presentation Ball since 1982.
